Located 35 kilometers north from Trang city in Huai Yot district, Wat Khao Phra Yod is a charming temple, perched on a small hill whose summit offers a magnificent view. It is a nice spot for watching sunrise. You can sometimes contemplate a sea of mist there but just seeing sunrise up there is already magical !

It is a relatively new temple since it was only in 1996 that the first element, the Buddha image Luang Pho Yot, was installed. There are 3 stages of climbing the temple. The first, the easiest, is via covered stairs that lead to the Chedi Bua Thong. Further on, a small, steeper staircase leads first to a standing Buddha whose platform already offers a very beautiful view. Then, you enter what I will call the climbing part through a large hole in the wall of the mountain to arrive at the last phase of climbing, a little more delicate (and dangerous if you are not vigilant) to climb on the big rock of the summit with a seated Buddha statue and an incredible view if the weather is favorable! While going up, if you take your time, you will be able to notice a lot of details, statues, mentions of the cardinal points...

The temple has also been a renowned meditation center since 2002.

How to get to Wat Khao Phra Yod ?

Wat Khao Phra Yod temple is located about 30 kilometers north from Trang city, close to Huai Yot town whose train station is a less than 5 kilometers from the temple. As finding a tuk-tuk to take you there at the station is not certain and the number of trains per day is quite low, I do not really advise to use the train to visit Wat Khao Phra Yod. The best is clearly to have your own transportation even if the pink buses between Phuket and Trang, pass on the main road n°4 and thus at the intersection of the small road which leads to the temple (1 km) but it is in my opinion a little risky option as catching a pink bus from the side of the road to go back is uncertain and quite challenging.
