Lopburi Khok Salung Railway Bridge
At 18 kilometers long, this railway bridge in Lopburi province is probably the longest in Thailand. Its particularity is also to not be straight but mark a long curve. All this makes it very photogenic. So much that it has become an tourist attraction with day trips by train organized from Bangkok by the SRT (State Railway of Thailand) on weekends. For these special journeys, the train stops on the bridge to let passengers take pictures. Otherwise, in normal situation, it just passes on the bridge without stopping.

The Khok Salung Railway Bridge is on the Bua Yai - Kaeng Khoi train line. It crosses the water reservoir created by the Pasak Chonlasit Dam. The station and the railway line were built after the old one was submerged in water after the construction of the dam. Apart from the long excursion trains departing from Bangkok, the passenger convoys that use this line are quite short because they carry few passengers.

Personally, apart from taking one of the train excursions, I don't think it's a must visit in Lopburi ! But if you're not far, why not make a detour ?

Practical information about Khok Salung Railway Bridge

Day train excursions Rod Fai Loi Nam which in Thai means the train floating on the water, and which go over the Khok Salung Railway Bridge, must be booked at the station or on the SRT website: www.railway. co.th. Book in advance as this is a very popular trip with Thais !
Please note, the day trip by train is generally only offered from November to February with a departure on Saturday and one on Sunday. You can add small paying tours by minivan to go see the nearby dam, sunflowers fields etc...
Here are the hours of train crossings on the bridge (last cecked on May 7, 2022): 9:33 a.m. - 11:17 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. - 1:46 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Knowing that trains in Thailand are not always very punctual.

For the 2023 season, the train excursion is expected to depart from Bang Sue Grand Station around 6 a.m., stop at at Samsen, Bang Sue, Bang Khen, Lak Si, Don Mueang and Rangsit and Ayutthaya Junction, Saraburi and Kaeng Khoi before reaching the bridge at around 10:30 am and stopping there for 20 minutes to let tourists to enjoy the scenery and take photos. Then, it will continue to the last station (Khok Salung) where it will stop for 30 minutes for tourists to shop local products. Then it will return to the dam so that tourists have free time and can have lunch. The return trip will leave at around 3:30 p.m. to arrive in Bangkok a little before 7 p.m.

How to get to Khok Salung Railway Bridge ?

To get to the Khok Salung Railway Bridge, as I said, the best way is to buy a ticket for the SRT train excursion organized on Saturdays and Sundays, 3 months per year. Otherwise, you can always board on a train on the Bua Yai - Kaeng Khoi line or come by car. It's a 1 hour drive from Lopburi.
