Presentation Khmer art stone carver
reviews My opinion:
starstarstarstar
Kunthot Sowapee's workshop, one of the last Khmer art stone carvers in Thailand, is located right next to
Wat Phra Ngam temple. In a passion transmitted and skills teached by his father Suntorn Sowapee, he continues to sculpt statues of Ganesh, Apsara, lintels...
He with opens easily the doors of his workshop to visitors who can also come on see him at work. But he's not always there. If he is, don't hesitate to come in.
Practical information about Khmer art stone carver
He works mostly in the morning, so it's between, I would say, 8:30 am and noon that you're most likely to see him carving. To increase your chances, you can also contact him via
his Facebook page .
If the doors of the workshop are closed, try to see with the small shop selling drinks at the right of Wat Phra Ngam, it is his wife who manages it and the workshop is just in the back.
How to get to Khmer art stone carver ?
There is no public transport to come to Ajarn Sowapee's sculpture workshop but you can get there it by bicycle. After Wat Na Phra Meru, there are about 3 kilometers to reach Wat Phra Ngam next to which the workshop is located. Hiring a tuk-tuk to get to Sowapee's sculpture workshop is also an option (count around 250 THB for the round trip).
