The province of Ranong is located in the south of Thailand, on the eastern coast. Bordering the sea, it also has a border with Myanmar (former Burma). It is a tranquil destination offering unspoiled natural beauty, soothing hot springs and secluded islands.
On the land side, the hot springs of Raksawarin are the most famous places. The town has one or two interesting temples and the Rattanarangsan throne hall. But foreign tourists who come to Ranong go for the islands of Koh Phayam and Koh Chang (not to be confused with Koh Chang of the province de Trat). Undeveloped and untouristed islands, they are beautiful retreats for those seeking calm far from mass tourism. Also note the Laem Son National Park.
In general, travelers go to Ranong for two main reasons : to make a visa run in Myanmar (Burma) to renew their viosa for Thailand (Burmese visa costs $ 10) or go to the nearby islands of Koh Chang or Koh Payam. People rarely come for the city itself and are just passing by. We must confess that the city of Ranong has not much to offer except for its peaceful atmosphere.
