Trat, located in the far east of Thailand, is a seaside province famous for its islands, thriving marine life and laid-back atmosphere. Close to the Cambodian border, tourists sometimes go there on the road to Cambodia but more often to go to Koh CHiang and neighboring islands.The town of Trat has little tourist attraction. Tourists in general do not linger there and pass by to go to the island of Koh Chang, the largest but also to Koh Kood, less known, or even Koh Mak or, more rarely, the wild, Koh Wai . There is also an interesting fishing community on the coast. Trat has an airport with flights to and from Bangkok.
Destinations to visit in Trat
The city is essentially a gate to the Koh Chang, Koh Mak, Koh Wai and Koh Kood islands or to Cambodia. It is a typical provincial town with few tourist attractions but not without charm. Go see the Night Market you will immerse in authentic Thailand. The little curiosity of Trat is the yellow oil, nam man luang which has the reputation to cure all ills.Its secret of fabrication is kept from generation to generation. There are two main reasons attracting travelers in the Trat province: go by land to Cambodia or go to Koh Chang ( literally Elephant Island ) which is after Phuket, the second largest island in Thailand or go to surrounding islands ( Koh Mak, Koh Kood, Koh Wai ...). Close to the large island of Koh Chang in Trat Province, Koh Kood is still preserved from mass tourism. Here, you will find yourself in a almost untouched nature, with a few resorts and some shops and restaurants. There's no jet ski or other water sports, no elephant rides on Koh Kood.
