The province of Phayao

General information about the province of Phayao

Province capital: Phayao
Name in Thai: พะเยา

Location on map

phayao

Province of region Northern Thailand

The province of Phayao is located in the north of Thailand, just below that of Chiang Rai. It is a destination very little frequented by foreign tourists offering a quiet getaway far from the urban hustle and bustle. It has some pretty places like Phayao Lake, the largest natural lake in the region, a popular relaxation spot offering scenic views and water activities as well as the location of some interesting Buddhist festivals and ceremonies.

Travelers stopping in the province can explore historic temples such as Wat Si Khom Kham with its large seated Buddha, but for me, the jewel of Phayao is Phu Langka National Park (it has a homonym in the province of Nakhon Phanom) which offers extraordinary landscapes!

Whether for a boat trip on the lake, a cultural exploration or simply to relax in the middle of picturesque landscapes, the province of Phayao is worth lingering there for one, two or even 3 days .
