Lopburi Province, located north of Bangkok, is a Thai province that captivates with its ancient history, cultural monuments and unique blend of heritage. This region is famous for its century-old remains, of course, but above all the mischievous monkeys who have invaded part of the city and live alongside the inhabitants.

We often reduce the province of Lopburi to its capital and its monkeys, which are clearly the reason why tourists go there. But there are interesting temples outside the city, some mountainous with the temple in Thailand which has the most steps to reach its summit, there are also pretty viewpoints and the Pasak Jolasid Dam and its reservoir of water crossed by the railway line. This is the highlight in winter of Thailand's most popular train excursion called the floating train because at this time of year the year, the water level is so high that it comes very close to the level of the bridge. Lopburi also organizes a big banquet for its monkeys every year in November.

Especially famous for the hordes of monkeys that roam in the city as if it belongs to them, Lopburi have also some ruins of temples from Ayutthaya period mainly located in the train station area. The market once or twice a week, drives the place alive with the sound of Thai music played by discs saler's speakers. Every evening, along the railway track, you will find stalls offering dishes at low prices. Lopburi is a touristy city but often overlooked by travelers in a hurry to go to Sukhothai....
