Neben Loy Krathong organisiert Sukhothai seit einigen Jahren auch die anderen großen buddhistischen Feste des Jahres in einem dieser alten Tempel.
Makha Bucha findet im Wat Mahathat im Herzen des zentralen Teils des historischen Parks statt, wo eine kreisförmige Zeremonie stattfindet, bei der der zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe gehörende Tempel dreimal umrundet wird.
Ausländische Touristen sind herzlich eingeladen, an diesem Ritual teilzunehmen. An die ersten Ankömmlinge werden jedes Mal kostenlose Kerzen verteilt. Zu diesem Anlass ist der Zugang zum historischen Park ab 17 Uhr KOSTENLOS und die Monumente werden beleuchtet. Ich habe nicht die genaue Uhrzeit des Beginns der Kerzenprozession, aber es sollte zwischen 18 und 19 Uhr sein.
Wir sind in Thailand, daher werden im Park vor dem Teich von Wat Sa Si auch Essensstände aufgebaut.
