What places to visit in Amphawa?

What to see in Amphawa

Amphawa and the entire Samut Songkram region are known for their floating markets. Amphawa's market, which is more vibrant in the evening, is the most famous in Thailand but also the most crowded with tourists. There's also the Damnoen Saduak market, featured in many tourist circuits, as well as the Tha Kha market and others nearby like the Bang Noi Floating Market. However, the real curiosity here, which draws hundreds of tourists daily in an increasingly chaotic atmosphere, is the Mae Klong Railway Market, also known as Talad Rom Hub, which folds away at each train passing. Additionally, there are some interesting temples, craftsmen, and notably, coconut sugar producers in the area.

I also listed at the end of the page some good tours, excursions and activities that you can do in Amphawa or from Amphawa. Click here to see them.

It is the main reason why visitors here come from Bangkok. It takes place from Friday to Sunday at noon and is particularly interesting to see at night. At night is also the famous fireflies visit.

Mae Klong is also named Samut Songkhram. The vendors fold the stalls back at each pass of the train.

My opinion :

This small museum in the middle of Amphawa floating market is interesting because it hosts each weekend two amazing women who make bamboo hats or coconut palms hats and other objects in front of you. You can try too if you want.

Amphawa Chaipattananurak Foundation

โครงการอัมพวา ชัยพัฒนานุรักษ์
My opinion :

More than the foundation itself, whose work to revive and preserve the know-how and traditions of Amphawa local life is admirable, it is the land that it owns with a coconut grove that is an example to local farmers for ecoresponsible production and its small production unit of artisanal coconut sugar that worths to come.

Other nice places to visit in Amphawa

Tha Kha Floating Market

Tha Kha Floating Market

starstarstarstarstar This small floating market 5 km from the very famous Damnoen Saduak floating market is much smaller and less visited. It takes place ona few hundred meters long canal but is more traditional and quiet.
Wat Bang Kung

Wat Bang Kung

starstarstarstar Amazing temple whose walls are besieged in the roots of a tree. Its very simple building houses a golden Buddha image and a few mural paintings which are still visible on some parts of the wall. This is the most famous temple in Amphawa province.
Ban Bang Phlap Community

Ban Bang Phlap Community

starstarstar This small rural community, 4 kilometers from Amphawa, lives mainly from the land and water, which allows locals to cultivate without pesticides succulent pomelos and coconut trees from which they make a lot of things including coconut sugar. Cycling here is very pleasant !
Bang Noi floating market

Bang Noi floating market

starstar Another floating market, about 5 kilometers from Amphawa, it is quieter and in my opinion less interesting but maybe nice in the morning when Amphawa really comes alive in the evening. Even though in the morning, I would rather advice you to go to Tha Kha little floating market.
Wat Chulamanee

Wat Chulamanee

starstar An interesting temple that can be part of the tours offered by the boat tours from Amphawa. The point that marked me the most was its hall nicely decorated with gilding. It is not the most interesting temple in Thailand but can be worth a quick detour.
