I saw the start of its construction a few years ago and told you then that they were building a Big Buddha on the small hill in front of Wat Phra That Mae Yen. Now it's finished and the visit is on every travel agencies in Pai. This is not the most beautiful ''big Buddha'' in Thailand, my favorite remains Wat Muang's Buddha but it is interesting to go for the statue and the view of the surroundings from the stairs.

I especially recommend it for the small Wat Phra That Mae Yen temple which I found full of charm even though it is often snubbed by visitors who have only eyes for the Big Buddha.

This page is a duplicate to Wat Phra That Mae Yen but it was important for me to highlight the temple also even if both monuments are in the same place.

How to get to Pai Big Buddha ?

There is no public transportation going to the temple but you can get here quickly by bicycle since the temple is only 2 kilometers from the city. Or you can hire a motorcycle taxi, it will cost around THB 120 to and come back. Since the Big Buddha is finished, the temple is also on many 1 day tour offered by the agencies.
