Located 25 km west of Nakhon Si Thammarat town, the small village of Khiri Wong which won the Thai tourism award for the best cultural and community trips in 1998 is in the mountains. Residents have developed an ecotourism project to invite visitors to discover their way of life and to the beauty of nature through hiking trails and activities. Regarding the tie-dye work, if you want to see it and have explanations in English better to call 080 393 9364 (mobile number) in advance (the day before for instance). It is also necessary to call if you want to make your own tie-dyed clothes (no batik, just dye clothes with patterns). The cost depends on the type of fabric dyed and ranges from 50 THB for a handkerchief to 250 THB for a T-Shirt. Be conscient that you may face some language barrier since foreign tourists are still very rare and only afew inhabitants speak English.

The deep blue songthaews number 8464, pick-ups with benches at the back, can take you from the Nakhon Si Thammarat city to Khiriwong village. They depart from behind Talat Yao market which is opposite of Chedi Yak (price: 40 THB for 1h20 ride). be careful, to return to Nakhon Si Thammarat, it seems that the last is at 3 pm.
