Mae Klong Railway Station
Quick historical background
Mae Klong Station is located in Samut Songkhram province, about 70 km southwest of Bangkok. It is world-famous for its
market on rails, where stalls fold and unfold as the train passes by. Opened in 1904, Mae Klong Station is part of a railway line built to facilitate the transport of seafood from the coast to Bangkok. Today, the line is mostly used by travelers and tourists, attracted by the unique, but somewhat overly popular, sight of the train slowly passing through the market.
Mae Klong Station is the terminus of the line that begins at Ban Laem Station. It is one of the few railway lines in the world where the rails run through the middle of a working market. Amphawa and its floating market are 9km away, a songhtew connects Mae Klong town to Amphawa.
