Your Travel Guide to Thailand
All information & tips to prepare your trip in Thailand
Departure:
In the morning, meet your private English-speaking guide at your hotel and head to Wong Wiang Yai Station. From there you take the train in third class. En route, you can admire the rice fields and local Thai houses.
Once you arrive in Mahachai, after an hour by train, you will board a traditional longtail boat to join a fishing community then take a tuk-tuk or rickshaw ride. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will board a ferry across the river to Baan Leam on the opposite bank. From there you will take the train to Maeklong. You will then be on board the train which crosses the famous Talad Rom Hub, a market located on the railway line.
When you arrive at the Mae Klong Railway Market, you will see locals busy buying and selling their products. But above all you will witness the unique spectacle of the transformation of the market when a train passes. Its piercing siren signals its imminent arrival to buyers and sellers who must fold up their stalls. The train, moving at a walking pace, brushes past the fruits and other market goods as it makes its way. And as soon as it passes everything goes back into place in a few seconds. an astonishing vballet!
After visiting all the sites, return to your hotel in Bangkok around 5:00 p.m.
Note that it is entirely possible to take the train journey to the market on the railway line and cross the river by ferry on your own. It's even quite simple when you have the right information and follow the instructions I give on my page about how to visit the Talad Rom Hub railway market
