Royal Ploughing Ceremony - Thailand
Information about Royal Ploughing Ceremony
The date of the ceremony is fixed by the royal astrologer. Royal Ploughing Ceremony is an annual event that already existed during the Sukhothai period and was abandoned in 1936 before being revived in 1960 by King Bhumibol. This ceremony honors agricultural season to come. Rituals are supposed to predict if it will be good or not.
One of the highlight of the Royal Ploughing Ceremony is the event held at Sanam Luang (in front of Wat Phra Kaew) in Bangkok.
