Information about Poy Sang Long Ceremony Mae Sot
Poy Sang Long is a Buddhist ordination ceremony of novice monks of the Shan or Tai Yai people, an ethnic group originally from Burma. Orderly boys are between 7 and 14 years old. On the first day of the festival, they shave their heads and then they wear colorful traditional clothes and make up their faces. The second day is probably the most spectacular with the parade with the novices on the shoulders and the big party. The third day is the day of the ordination ceremony. At Mae Sot, it is held at Wat Thai Wattanaram temple.
