On October 13, 2016, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama 9, his dynastic name, died, leaving an entire country orphan
of this very popular king considered by many as the Father of the nation. Monarch of Thailand for seven decades, he was probably one of the most popular kings of the kingdom. It was decided in 2017 that to pay homage to His memory every year October 13, the anniversary of His death, will be public holiday. Numerous ceremonies will be held throughout Thailand.
