Your Travel Guide to Thailand
All information & tips to prepare your trip in Thailand
Opened in 1914, Don Muang Airport is one of the oldest international airports in the world. It was first a Royal Thai Airforce airport before welcoming the first commercial flights in 1924. It is the oldest commercial airport in the world. Bangkok's only airport, it was replaced in 2006 by Suvarnabhumi Airport before reopening a year later after major renovations and going from the first to the second airport in the Thai capital. Don Mueang Airport is now dedicated to domestic flights in Thailand with airlines such as AirAsia, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air and regional international flights.
Don Muang Airport consists of 2 terminals:
The airport offers restaurants, cafes, currency exchange offices (the best in terms of rates is the Happy Rich which is located in the train station at the end of the footbridge connecting the airport and the train station), car rental services, 7 Elevens, a luggage storage, local SIM card sellers and even massage parlors.
The luggage storage at Don Mueang Airport is available in the transition area between the two terminals on the 2nd floor. It is also there, right next door, that there is a massage parlor. Otherwise, there is also Airportel, a private company that offers luggage storage and delivery service for your luggage to your hotel.
It is mainly on the 4th floor that you will find the restaurants. You will also find a Box Hotel there. There are several Food Centers in Don Muang Airport, the most interesting, in my opinion, the one with the most choice and offers the best prices is the one behind the 7 Eleven on the 3rd floor of Terminal 2.
If you are looking for a convenient hotel near Don Muang Airport, besides the Box Hotel which is on the 4th floor of Terminal 2, there is the Amari Hotel Don Muang connected to the airport by a footbridge.
