Bangkok scam: fake broken iPhone
A new type of scamappears in Bangkok. A gang operates in the most popular areas of the city and instead of stealing your cell phone, they found a much simpler method. Stealing a smartphone, it has become so has-been with them.
The phone was already broken before you bumped into its owner
Their technique: they takes advantage of pedestrians by intentionally walking up to them, dropping their already-broken phone. Then you’re responsible for of breaking their smartphone. You feel guilty and they ask you to offer money to repair the phone and most of the time it works ! They get money from the mean passerby who shortened the life of their precious smartphone. Except it was already broken long time ago before hitting the ground. This is the whole strategy of this team of scammers. Their favorite field to play this little comedy is the Skytrain corridors. They have been seen at Siam and Victory Monument BTS stations. The gang remains on the loose for now and, apparently, no victims have yet filed official complaint with the police.
