No song for Thai Deputy Commerce Minister
The intention was good, the result not so good. To promote traditional grocery stores shops threatened by supermarkets in Thailand as elsewhere in the world, Nattawut Saikuar, ThaiDeputy Commerce Minister decided to use internet and make the buzz to spread his message. So he produced a song video clip. But if there was buzz, it was not positive…
Written by the Deputy Minister and performed by himself with a few officials and more or less comfortable owners of small grocery stores, the song was quickly removed from Youtube after numerous bad critics and comments. “Retarded,” said one commentator. “The deputy commerce minister is terrible,” said another. Many said it was a waste of government time and money. While the video quickly reached 50,000 views, viewer dislikes largely outnumbered the likes 1,560 to 160. Some pointed out that the melody was very similar to “Black Superman (Muhammad Ali) by English artist Johnny Wakelin and The Kinshasa Band, opening the ministry to a copyright violation claim. The clip was removed 4 days after it went online. Removed by the Ministry of Commerce but republished by others. Here is it!
Sure it is not Thriller but it is not that bad, is it? Without the Deputy Minister, people would probably have found it nice and funny. And finally is the goal not reached ? There were numerous articles and reports about this video and people shared it a lot even if it was to criticize the Deputy Minister.
