No more Formula 1 Grand Prix in Bangkok ?
Thai Ministry of Sport is considering moving the Formula 1 race from Bangkok following strong opposition from residents and ecologists and is studying other alternatives. Thailand Grand Prix could be moved to Phuket or even Khorat or Khon Kaen that volunteered to host the event.
Thailand Grand Prix circuit in Bangkok’s streets
But for FIA, Bangkok was a powerful symbol. The aura of the other cities on international level except maybe for Phuket is not the same. Who knows Khon Kaen or Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat) without having been or planned a travel in Thailand at least once? The government also think about moving the circuit to Chaeng Wattana or Muang Thong Thani, which would enable them to keep the prestigious name of “Bangkok Grand Prix” even if the aerial views will be less interesting than the ones of the original route in Wat Phra Kaew‘s area. Among the opponents to the race taking place on Rattanakosin island, some are concerned about the impact that vibrations could have on the monuments. Thailand Grand Prix confirmed by Bernie Ecclestone for 2015 could be cancelled since nothing was officially signed yet and the relocation of the race will probably be rejected by the FIA. To be continued… 😉
