A new bike lane along Chao Phraya river in Bangkok soon ?
Good news … A new bike path will soon emerge along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. The project was approved recently.
Normally I don’t advise using bicycle to go around in the city and tell people to better use public transportation in Bangkok. Given the chaotic and overloaded traffic in the Thai capital, it’s pretty risky to be in the traffic with a bicycle and you will breath so many gas. But there are some parts of Bangkok with small streets, quieter areas where cycling is enjoyable. There are also free bikes tours to explore the architecture of the city that are proposed. In addition with Pun Pun Bikes, it’s easy to find a bike in Bangkok now.
And the government seeks to promote cycling. After the bike path built at Suvarnabhumi is now a 7 kilometers bike lane that should be built along the iconic river of Bangkok. We do not know the exact location yet. The cabinet keeps the information secret to prevent real estate speculation in the area.
The Prime Minister and the Deputy Minister of Defence Gen Prawit Wongsuwan are leading the committee in charge of the project.
Gradually Bangkok becomes “bike friendly” and that’s good. But the road is still long!
