Phanom Rung light phenomenon (Buriram province)

Four times a year, the historical park of Khao Phanom Rung in Buriram province offers a rare spectacle to all visitors: sunrise or sunset through 15 perfectly aligned doors of Phanom Rung Khmer temple, a former monastery built on an extinct volcano.

Four times a year the sun goes through the 15 doors of Prasat Phanom Rung

Four times a year the sun aligns perfectly through the doors of the Phanom Rung temple.
This beautiful solar phenomenon occurs only four times a year, from 5 to 7 March and 5 to 7 October for sunsets or from 3 to 5 April  and from 7 to 9 September for sunrises (dates can slightly changed), and is accompanied by a series of rituals, processions in honor of the gods and cultural performances. It is also a must-have for many photographers who try to immortalize it on pictures. But they are very numerous.

For those who want to discover the Phanom Rung, surely one of the wonders of Isan, we advise you to find a room in Nang Rong rather than in Buriram further and somewhat less bucolic. A stay in Nang Rong is also the opportunity to discover another great Khmer temple, the well restored Muang Tham and why not add a tour at Wat Khao Angkhan ?
