A video game to teach children how to fight floods in Thailand
“Sai Fah, the Flood Fighter” is not a common video game. Here, no need of beating opponents with super powers or walk carefully in a virtual reality killing zombies and other enemies. No, Fah Sai , the hero of the game, fights floods.
The goal of this educational video game is to limit the number of children killed during the floods in Thailand. The idea comes from Unesco after huge floods that hit the country more than two years ago. The organisation wanted to find an effective way to disseminate instructions to children to protect them from floods danger. In the autumn of 2011, 65 of the 77 provinces of Thailand were flooded causing more than 800 deaths. More than one hundred were children .
The free app for smartphones and tablets was launched in Januar. More than 18,000 people downloaded it until today. Sai Fah’s house will be flooded, he must pass several missions before, during and after the floods. Each of them is bearing a message of prevention.
