More attacks in Thailand

Since the beginning of the year, the political conflict in Thailand has been known several grenade attacks and shootings killing 17 people and injuring almost one hundred others. These coward terrorist acts have multiplied since this weekend . An escalation in violence that should unfortunatly not stop while the Red Shirts are plannig to rally again.

Violences en Thailande

As long as the current political crisis in Thailand lasts, other coward attacks hitting the crowd are likely to multiply. Acts that are no longer confined only in Bangkok but move to the provinces with a shooting in Trat and now also strike outside rally sites with a grenade attack in the commercial district of the thai capital city, this weekend . Last night, Lumpini rally site was attacked for 3 hours (see article in Bangkok Post) in Bangkok. Luckily no casualties were reported. And if the Tourist Authority of Thailand publishes daily statements on the situation, they forgot to mention these incidents continuing to say that “it is business as usual” in Thailand but it is not.

So should we be afraid to go to Thailand? Probably not, but it is essential to be cautious and be informed of what is happening in the country and avoid all gatherings and demonstrations rally sites. Particularly in Bangkok. A city where we recommend you, and this is a very personnal opinion, to minimize your presence in the coming days even if visiting the main tourist attractions is still possible without risk for the moment. Especially avoid Ratchaprasong , Pathumwan , Lumpini, Asoke and the Democracy Monument and take public transportation like skytrain, subway, Chao Phraya Express, rather than taxis and tuk -tuks to avoid passing priximit protests sites.

We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed via this blog and on our Facebook page and our Twitter account. Also do not hesitate to call the TAT hotline at 1672 or Tourist ‘s Friend Center at 02 314 1212.
