Chiang Mai is one of the cities in Thailand where it is most interesting to celebrate Loy Krathong, the Festival of Lights. Here is the program of festivities for November 25, 2015, Loy Krathong Day in Thailand.

The most significant moments Loy Krathong 2015 in Chiang Maiai

– 19:00 to 23:00: Small Krathong Procession from Thaphae Gate to Chiang Mai Municipal Office.
–  21:00 to midnight : Lantern Contest & Launch.
– around 19:00: amazing Buddhist candle ceremony at Wat Pan Tao. Probably the most beautiful ceremony for Loy Krathong in Chiang Mai !

– 09:00 to 17:00: Handmade Krathong Contest at Chiang Mai Municipal Office (and floating ritual on the Ping River from 17:00).
– 17:00 to 23:00: Thai Traditional Dance Contest at Chiang Mai Municipal Office.
– 08:00 to 22:00 at Wat Jed Lin and 09:00 to 22:00 at Wat Lok Mo Lee: Great Sermon, amaze decoration and candle tray decoration for Pagoda’s Worshiping.
– 10:00 to 23:00: Ceremony in honor of Phra Sirimangkalajam at Buddha Sathan (Thapae Road).
– All day: Pratu Pa (welcome gate for worm returning from forest), decoration contest in Buddhist temples ans municipal communities.
– All day : Lantern Decoration from Taphae Gate to Chiang Mai Municipal Office.
– 18:00 to 24:00: Miss Yee Peng 2015 Contest @ Thapae Gate.
– 18:00 to 24:00: Traditional Lanna candle tray decoration and floating Krathong on the moat around the city’s fortress.

Note that you have many things also happenning at Narawat bridge and opposite Warorot market, parts of the river banks where there are the most people to release their tradtionnel krathongs on Ping River.
