What is good with internet magic (besides the fact that Thailandee.com exists course;)) is that you can travel through time with one click. Today, we invite you to discover or rediscover Bangkok 30 years ago.
The video posted by old45s is entitled “Bangkok scenes 1985, 1987 & 1996” and shows as its name indicates scenes shot by the author in the Thai capital city during those years.
The video begins with a sequence within a Thai Airways flight to Bangkok in 1985 where we can recognize the hostesses wearing traditional dresses. Then we end up in Bangkok streets on Sukhumvit Soi 19 and we can notice that even then the traffic was quitedense on Sukhumvit Road. And what’s funny is that the buses in Bangkok have not changed !
The the video takes us to Pratunam, offers an aerial view of Bangkok from the top floor of the Dusit Thani, a ride to Patong, a dinner at Savoey Restaurant (not the one we recently spoke about but another one on the riverside too), and views of the Chao Phraya…
In short, this video offers a very interesting dive in Bangkok during the 80s. Even Soi CowBoy is filmed (in 1987). In 1996, we see the beginning of the skytrain’s construction.
During the 28 minutes of the film we can see how Bangkok has changed (apart from the bus and tuk-tuks). The video offers a review of Bangkok from 1985 to 1996 which should take back memories for some of you, no ?
