No train for 6 months at Maeklong Railway Market

This is one of the most surprising visits that you can do when traveling in Thailand. The market on the railway in Mae Klong 1h30 drive from Bangkok will have no train passing through for 6 months. Time to renovate the railway.

Maeklong Railway market

This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Samut Songkhram with the neighboring floating markets (Damnoen Saduak, Amphawa, Tha Kha …). The city market vendors are installed on the railway track and have to fold their stalls every time a train comes.

A ballet that occurs 8 times per day. A very common thing for locals that has become in recent years a major tourist attraction and today attracts tourists by the busload. An invasion which doesn’t really make market vendors richer. So if you go there, please buy some fruits. They are delicious !

Old, the line Samut Sakhon to Samut Songkhram will be closed for repairs for about six months. In the meanwhile, the market will not deal with the passage of trains and probably with tour buses arriving, filming and photographing and leaving for other places.

This portion of the Thai railway had some derailments usually not serious in recent years and is often flooded which led to subsidence. For its renovation, the line should be closed from May 13 to November 8, 2015.

The line between Wong Wian Yai in Bangkok and Samut Sakhon will continue to operate normally.

We’ll keep you informed of the reopening of the line…
