Today is Museums Day in Thailand
To celebrate Thai Museums Day, the National Museum Bangkok is open to the public free of charge today from 9am to 4pm. The aim is to promote awareness of the importance of museums as centres of learning and national heritage conservation.
For that special day, all national museums in Thailand are organising special activities and exhibitions on the development of museums in Thailand, such as the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum in Ayutthaya and the Chiang Saen National Museum in Chiang Rai. On Sept 19, 1874, King Rama V ordered the establishment of the National Museum at the Concordia Hall in the compound of the Grand Palace, and in 1995 Sept 19 was choosen to be the Thai Museums Day.
