Dinning on Chao Phraya river banks at Savoey Restaurant

In Bangkok, in the evening there are some romantic places to have dinner. The banks of the Chao Phraya is one of them. I was invited to the Savoey Restaurant that just opened at Maharaj Pier, a new nice place that opened last April in Bangkok. And as I liked it, I share my experience with you.

Savoey Bangkok

If Tha Maharaj Pier is quite a new place, it is already hosting some events like a bicycle festival in recent days. Set on the banks of the Chao Phraya river, the place promises to be one of the new fashionable spots of Bangkok.

On the second floor, far right, is the new Savoey Restaurant and its terrace overlooking the river. The place seems to be a wonderful spot to watch beautiful sunsets even if a cloud was masking the sun the night I was there. There is also an air conditioned room but it would be a shame to come here and not enjoy the terrace.

Once night falls, the bulb garlands and the scenic view over the Chao Phraya river create a really nice atmosphere. We are still in Bangkok but in a lot more romantic Bangkok 😉

The dishes we add for our dinner

On the menu, you have a wide choice of Thai dishes and they really look tasty on the pictures. Savoey has a very good reputation and there is no reason why this new restaurant will make an exception.

We ordered different dishes (I give the names like they are witten on the menu so you can try the same ones when you come): one “deep-fried snapper in green curry served with Thai rice noodle”, my favorite, “stir-fried prawns with sea salt and fresh chilli rock” and the “special-baked pineapple fried rice”, one of their signature dishes. I almost forgot, we also took a Tom Yum, a iconic dish of Thai cuisine.

The average price for a dish is around 250-300 THB and 470 THB for the fish. We shared everything in the middle of the table so everyone can enjoy every dish. Add a Singha for everyone and you arrive at a total of 320 baht per person. It is a very good price for the food and the view quality 😉

Personally, I prefer to come eat here than going to the very busy Asiatique The Riverfront. The place is much more intimate, romantic and the view is much nicer !

Note: for Muay Thai lovers, in a short time a thai boxing room will open right above the restaurant. So you can come, have a romantic dinner followed or preceded with Thai Boxing.

How to get to Savoey Restaurant

Tha Maharaj where the restaurant is located is just behind Wat Mahathat. From Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace, it is less than a 10 minutes walk.

If you come from further away, you can take a tuk-tuk or a taxi directly from where you are or from a BTS or MRT station like Hua Lamphong (then 100 THB by taxi). Tell them to take you to “Tha Marahaj”. Otherwise, you can take the Chao Phraya Express or Chao Phraya Tourist boats. They all stop here but remember that service stops at 8 pm on week days and 7 pm on weekends and holidays).

The place just opened so it is not mandatory to book a table before coming but it’s better to call anyway. I’m sure Tha Marahaj will become increasingly popular and the restaurant crowded.
