Crossing Chao Phraya in Bangkok will cost more in a few months
The Marine Department announced it was working to update the rates of Chao Phraya ferries. Crossing the river in Bangkok should cost more in a few months.
It is true that the 3 baht currently asked to take a ferry that takes you from one bank to another, between Wat Pho and Wat Arun for example, are far from excessive.
The 15 baht that costs the Chao Phraya Express are also very affordable.
The revised rates for the Chao Phraya ferries and boats Saen Saeb Canal reflect employees wage increases, fuel costs and the amount of passengers using the various ferry services, according to the department head Chula Sukmanop.
In short, they reverberate rising costs.
According to head of the Marine Department, the rates of ferries vary by location. Rates with a large number of passengers are normally lower than those with fewer passengers to allow ferry operators with fewer passengers to remain profitable and be able to put aside enough budget to invest in improving services and infrastructure.
The new prices should be announced in August (2015).
The increase is expected to be very low.
We will communicate the new rates as soons as they will be formalized.
