Bangkok Skytrain free for the elders during Songkran

BTS,  iconic Bangkok Skytrain took since its inception used to mark certain public holidays by offering free service to those we honor on those days. So during Songkran, from April 13 to April 15, travelers aged 60 and more will be offered to travel on its network for free.

For this free ride, passengers just have to to show their identity card at the counter to justify the age of 60 or more and then will get a free ticket. The purpose of this campaign called “Happy Songkran” is to strengthen family ties and encourage young people to take their grandpas and grandmas to travel in Bangkok by BTS.

It must be said that the average age of users of BTS and MRT, its underground counterpart, is quite young. Old people are not very numerous. And if Songkran is often seen from outside Thailand as the festival of water fights in the street, it is primarily for the Thais the opportunity to pay tribute to the elder. What BTS does with this offer.

Concerning foreigners, it is difficult to say whether they will benefit from the offer or not. Identity card to show at BTS counters may be only Thai ID card but it costs you nothing to try.
